How it Works
From a user’s point of view:
Open a record (e.g. in Salesforce)
Click a button (e.g. “Generate Cover Letter”)
Receive the document – it’s auto-sent by email or shown in the UI
Or let it happen behind the scenes — fully automated document flows with no clicks required.
From an admin’s point of view:
Create a Word template with placeholders like {{FirstName}}
Upload the template into the Portal
It’s ready to go – no dev required
Why It Matters
Manual document creation is slow, error-prone, and costly. Document automation solves these challenges by letting software handle the heavy lifting. Here’s why businesses are embracing document automation:
Save Time & Boost Productivity
Automating document generation cuts down hours of work into minutes. Studies show it can reduce document processing times by up to 80%.
Reduce Errors & Improve Accuracy
No more mistakes from manual data entry. By pulling information directly from your data sources, automation ensures every document is accurate and consistent, resulting in up to 50% fewer errors.
Accelerate Sales & Approvals
Faster documents mean faster business. Automated proposals and contracts go out sooner, speeding up approval cycles by around 30%.
Ensure Consistency & Compliance
With templates and rules in place, every document follows your branding and legal standards automatically. You maintain a professional look and meet compliance requirements on every document, every time.
In short, DocGen helps you work smarter, not harder – eliminating paperwork bottlenecks that hold back your business.
Key Benefits of DocGen
What makes DocGen different from other document generation tools? We’ve built DocGen to deliver key advantages that address real-world business needs:
1
Unmatched Flexibility
DocGen is platform-agnostic and API-first, so it fits into any workflow. Generate documents from multiple data sources (CRM, databases, spreadsheets, or APIs) with ease – you’re not limited to one platform or one object. This flexibility means DocGen can handle complex scenarios that other tools can’t.
2
Ease of Use for Everyone
You don’t have to be a developer to use DocGen. Business users can design templates in familiar Microsoft Word by inserting simple placeholders (e.g., {{FirstName}} for a name). Our DocGen Portal provides a user-friendly interface to upload and manage templates, so non-technical team members can maintain document templates without IT help. (No proprietary editors or coding required!)
3
Powerful Dynamic Logic
Create intelligent templates that adapt to your data. DocGen supports dynamic content like conditional sections, repeating tables for line items, and even image or HTML data embedding. One template can handle many scenarios, reducing the need to maintain multiple versions. For example, include a custom clause only when a contract value is above a threshold, or loop through a list of products to build a quote table automatically.
4
Seamless Salesforce Integration
DocGen offers a native Salesforce integration via DocGen Connect, so Salesforce users can generate documents with one click directly from records. Unlike external tools that require clunky workarounds, DocGen works inside Salesforce as if it were a native feature – but with the full power of our engine behind the scenes. (If you’re not on Salesforce, no problem – our API lets you integrate with any other system just as easily.)
5
Enterprise-Grade & SMB-Friendly
Running on Microsoft Azure, DocGen is built to scale securely for enterprise demands, yet remains easy and affordable for small teams. You get enterprise-level document generation (high performance, reliable uptime, security) in a package that’s accessible to businesses of all sizes. No more complex setups or lengthy training – you’ll be up and running in no time.
ROI: DocGen vs Custom Code (e.g. Visualforce)
Some teams use custom code – like Visualforce – to generate documents. But it often creates a long-term headache:

Use Case Examples
DocGen can automate virtually any document process. Here are a few examples of how customers are using DocGen today:
Sales Contracts & Proposals
A sales rep closes deals faster by clicking a “Generate Contract” button in Salesforce. DocGen instantly produces a tailored contract PDF with all the deal’s details merged in (client info, product line-items, pricing, terms). No more hunting for the right template or manually updating terms – the rep sends out the contract for signature within minutes of the verbal agreement.
Legal Agreements & NDAs
A legal team maintains a library of up-to-date templates for NDAs and service agreements. When a new agreement is needed, staff simply select the template and client record, and DocGen produces a ready-to-send document with all the correct legal language. This ensures every contract is consistent with Legal’s standards and nothing gets accidentally omitted.
HR Offer Letters & Onboarding Packs
An HR manager uses DocGen to generate personalized offer letter packets. With one action, DocGen creates a Word document containing the offer letter, employment contract, and policy acknowledgments for a new hire – already filled in with the employee’s name, role, salary, and start date. The HR team can send out polished, error-free onboarding docs without spending hours on paperwork.
Invoices & Reports for Small Businesses
A small business owner integrates DocGen with their accounting system. At the end of each month, DocGen automatically pulls invoice data from a spreadsheet and generates professional invoices for all customers in one batch. What used to take a full day of manual editing now happens in seconds, and customers get their invoices faster.
AI-generated Document Content
Quickly create personalized sales proposals or executive summaries by typing a simple prompt such as “Summarize key selling points for financial services clients”.
Also, you can generate detailed product descriptions or FAQs automatically, significantly reducing content production time.
AI-generated Email Content
Instantly draft personalized customer outreach emails by prompting “Create a friendly follow-up email after demo,” enhancing customer engagement without extra manual effort. Automatically craft professional, context-aware email responses to frequently asked customer questions, improving response time and consistency.
Core Components of DocGen
DocGen is a complete platform composed of three core components that work together:
DocGen Engine
The heart of the platform: an API-driven document generation engine. The DocGen Engine takes your template and data (for example, in JSON or XML format) and merges them to produce the final document (Word or PDF). It runs in the cloud (Azure) for high performance and reliability. Developers can integrate this engine into any application or workflow via REST API.
DocGen Portal
A web-based administration and management console for your templates and documents. The Portal lets you upload new templates, organize them by category, test merges, and manage generated documents. It’s designed so that business users or admins can control templates without needing developer intervention. Think of it as the user-friendly front-end to the DocGen Engine.
DocGen Connect
Connectors to where your data is stored. For example, DocGen Salesforce Connect, a native Salesforce integration (managed package) that bridges Salesforce and the DocGen Engine. DocGen Connect allows Salesforce users to generate documents from within Salesforce records seamlessly. It packages Salesforce data (from standard or custom objects) and sends it securely to the DocGen Engine, then retrieves the merged document back to the user – all with a simple button click or automated workflow in Salesforce.
Together, these components provide a robust yet easy-to-use document automation solution. Use the DocGen Engine API to integrate with any system, the DocGen Portal to empower your team in managing templates, and DocGen Connect to bring powerful document generation into your CRM.
